Welcome to Grimsby Rugby Union Football Club Junior Section. Junior Rugby Union is played on a full sized pitch with 15 players on each team. Full rules apply with a few exceptions at the various age groups. The junior section of the club fields teams from under 13’s through to colts (school year 8 and upwards).
In 2004 the club was amongst the first in the NLD to attain the RFU Seal of Approval, and all of our coaches are at least Level 1 qualified and are CRB checked.
We are a rapidly expanding section of the club and our doors are always open, to new players and experienced players alike, so if you have an interest in Rugby Union why not come down and give us a TRY ! Our season begins in September and ends in May, and training sessions and games are on Sunday mornings from 10am until 12pm. Twenty-one of the clubs young guns, from Under-13s to Under-16s have been called up to play at county level this season, for either Lincolnshire or the three counties team, comprising Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. GRUFC Youth Registrar Jo Moore said: "It's fantastic for the club to have so many players recognised in representative squads. "It shows we're doing something right and that the coaching is working. "It's starting to bear fruit and the future of the club looks rosy." This season marks the Grimsby youth section's 20th anniversary. Mrs Moore said: "It's a great way to help celebrate what is a landmark year for us." Those called up are: Lewis Dyson and Ross Grant (both Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire School of Rugby (NLD) Under-13s); Tom Roberts (NLD Under-15s); Robbie Gray, Kieran Austin-Thomas, Gareth Roberts and Tyler Stevens (Lincs RFU Under-14s); Brandon Clark, Joshua Walker, James Carroll, Ryan Sylvester, Tom Morris and Adam Mouncey (Lincs RFU Under-15s); Dominic Arnold, Lewis Gibbs and Will Ridgway (Lincs RFU Under-16s); Stacey Needham, Sammy Needham and Chloe Dace (NLD Under-18s women); Beth Craske and Lyndsey Cullum (NLD Under-15s women); Max McKay (NLD Under-16s).
