Doug Clough (Vice-Chairman) Neil Corry (1st Team Captain) Chris Burke (Membership Secretary) Kim MacDermid (Welfare/Child Protection Officer) Tom Baker (2nd Team Captain) Lee Spall Mark Spreadbury Press Release - 12th May 2010 Grimsby RUFC is pleased to announce the appointment of a new senior coaching team for the 2010-2011 Season. Picking up the Head Coach's reins from Jim Saunders, who is stepping down at the end of the current Season, will be Ian Midgely. Ian will be assisted by Craig Knight, whose specialism is backs play and Andrew 'Fuzzy' Turner, who will be Colts' Head Coach and the Club's Coaching Coordinator. The new coaching team will be working closely with the senior team captains and vice-captains, who are as follows:- 1st Team Captain: Neil Corry Vice-Captains: Rick Silcox, Simon Weller 2nd Team Captain: Tom Baker Vice-Captains: Gav Hammond, Daz Spreadbury 3rd Team Captain: Stuart Connett In the absence of any change in the League arrangements by the RFU, the Blues' 1st team will be playing in RFU Midlands 3 East (North) League next Season, where they will encounter opposition including the likes of County rivals, Kesteven (Grantham) and Nottinghamshire's Southwell. The club's 2nd (Development) team and its 3rd team social side will play in the Lincolnshire Merit League. Ian is a former Grimsby RUFC youth player, who has returned to the area to take up a teaching post at a local Secondary School after spells playing and, latterly, coaching with Moseley RUFC and Dinnington RUFC. Craig has a long association with the club, having featured for many years in the Blues' 1st team at half-back before retiring a few years ago due to injury. Former England Colt and Grimsby 1st team Prop forward, Fuzzy has had a very successful period of coaching in the club's Junior Section over a number of Seasons now, during which he attained RFU Level 2 accreditation. Grimsby's current Playing Management Committee Chairman and Hon Secretary, Lindsay Studd (who is also stepping down at the club's AGM in July) said: "After the disappointment of this Season, when the senior squad suffered an unprecedented number of long-term player injuries, which contributed significantly to the 1st team's relegation, Grimsby RUFC is looking forward to picking itself up again and facing the challenges of Midlands 3. The new coaching team is full of enthusiasm and the club is optimistic about the prospects of promotion back into Midlands 2 by the end of next Season. With the club entering it's 125th year, what better incentive could there be for a turnaround in fortune on the field of play?" |
